John founded McMac Co Ltd together with his wife Mary over 20 years ago in Macau. McMac oversees the management and operations of all McDonald’s restaurants throughout Macau and Zhuhai.

John was born and raised in Macau. He left the former Portuguese enclave in 1966 to continue his high school and higher education in Minneapolis, USA. Between 1973 and 1981, he was involved in the Thin Film and Semi-conductor industries in Minneapolis. John earned a Bachelor and a Master degree both in Electrical Engineering (EE) from the University of Minnesota.

In 1982, John and his wife - together with their oldest daughter- moved back to Macau. In 1985, John signed with McDonald’s Corp to become the developmental licensee for the Macau market. The first restaurant opened in April, 1987 with huge success, introducing American fast food to the local Macau market for the first time. The number of restaurants in Macau has continued to grow steadily over the years. The first Zhuhai restaurant opened in August 1996 as a Joint Venture with McDonald’s Corp. The portfolio of restaurants in Macau and Zhuhai will expand to 36 by the end of 2011.

John is an avid supporter of the Ronald McDonald House Charities and Half the Sky organization. He is a member of the Hong Kong Ronald McDonald House Charities Board of Directors.  He also serves on the board of governors for the American Chamber of Commerce (AmCham) in Macau, since 2007.

John has been married to his wife Mary for over 31 years and has four daughters, Jacqueline, Michelle, Jillian and Martinique. His hobbies include photography, golf and travel.
